The Hoofprints of the Past Museum is pleased to present a one of a kind historical tour of the famed Hole-In-The-Wall area On June 26th and of the Dull Knife Battlefield on June 27th.

Experience the history of the Hole in the Wall and Dull Knife Battlefield as we retrace the paths of outlaws, Indians, and soldiers through the beautiful Kaycee and Barnum country. Each tour includes continental breakfast, lunch, and the tour guided by knowledgeable historians and locals. Relive the adventure and see the beauty of an amazing and wild area, where history still lives. Won't you walk with us in the hoof prints of the past?

The Hole in the Wall Tour:
-Saturday, June 26th
-Cost: $85 per person
-Registration begins at 8:00 am with continental breakfast in Kaycee, WY
-Speakers begin at 8:30 am

Along the route, speakers will tell the history surrounding various sites:
-Cabin site where Nate Champion and Nick Ray were killed during the Johnson County War
-Native American, homesteader, and Johnson County War historical sites
-The famous Hole in the Wall country, where notorious outlaws such as Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid, and Kid Curry hid from the law
-Enjoy lunch at a scenic and historic spot along the journey

Past Speakers Include:
-Ruth Underwood, great-great niece of Nate Champion who has done a thorough study of the Champion family
-Bill Bentensen, who recently spent two weeks in Argentina and visited Butch Cassidy's ranch in Cholila. He is a descendent of Butch and well-known speaker and writer on the life of Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch
-Other local and knowledgeable historians whose families have lived in the area for generations

Dull Knife Battlefield Tour
-Saturday, June 27th
-Cost: $75 per person
-Begins at 8:00 am with continental breakfast in Kaycee, WY

The Dull Knife Battle Site: In the dawn hours of November 25, 1876 in the Red Fork Valley, a large village of Northern Cheyenne Indians, many of them victors from the Battle of the Little Big Horn, were attacked by US soldiers led by Colonel Ranald MacKenzie.
-Travel to where the Indian village was located, then hike to the East Gap, where the cavalry troops entered the valley
-Lunch will be enjoyed near the Red Fork River under the shade trees
-Cross the creek and travel across the battlefield with several stops along the way
-See remnants of breast works used in the battle
-End at the Big Red Draw where the Indian women and children were hiding and view their escape route

About the Speaker and Tour Guide
-A descriptive, detailed account of the battle will be given by Cheri Graves.
-Her family has owned the land since the late 19th century and Cheri has done extensive research on the battle
-The family has been honored over the years to learn the stories and knowledge of previous visitors, including some descendents of Chief Dull Knife and other Northern Cheyenne and Pawnee, and to host the annual tour of The Order of Indian Wars
